A Bar Made of Cardboard by Bridge Road Brewers

Fri 22nd April, 2022 – Fri 30th December, 2022
137-141 Nicholson Street Brunswick East 3057
That means cardboard walls, shelves, light fixtures, tables, chairs and decor (don’t worry, you’ll be sipping beers, wines and small-batch spirits in real glass).

Beechworth’s Bridge Road Brewers is opening a second brewery – not in High Country, but right in the inner-city. It’ll have a 1000-litre brew kit and multiple 2000-litre fermenters, allowing it to produce beers that are exclusive to Melbourne while the core range will be trucked down from HQ.

It’s slated to open at the end of the year, but you can already order a beer at its pop-up brewpub. And it’s taking flatpack to another level.

Most of the bar – from the fit-out and decorations to the furniture and light fixtures – are made entirely from cardboard. It’s been designed by the cardboard aficionados at Boxwars and industrial packaging experts at Kebet Packaging with cardboard that’s 75 per cent recycled.

But it’s not flimsy like your usual cereal boxes and packages. The material has been specially engineered to withstand the usual hustle and bustle that bar furniture goes through.

There’s space for 60 people across both indoor and outdoor spaces. To drink, Bridge Road’s full line-up of core and seasonal drinks will rotate across six taps, and wines will come from the brewery’s High Country neighbours. Small-batch spirits will also be on offer and the tight snack list includes Chappy’s Chips and Mount Zero olives; food trucks are rocking up on Friday and Saturday nights.
