While many were mastering the art of sourdough in the second quarter of 2020, I found myself completely enraptured by the Major League Baseball (MLB) season, and rediscovered the joy of baseball.
Or, that is, the joy of sitting for three hours a day *watching* baseball on television. Though it was a shortened season I milked it for every ounce of meditation and analysis it could afford me, and as an added bonus my team ended up winning the World Series.
The minor league season was cancelled that year, and my local team the Vancouver Canadians Professional Baseball Club played the 2021 season in Oregon due to continued border restrictions.
It took until 2022 for them to return to play at our beloved Nat Bailey Stadium, and I was delighted to get media credentials and cover the team. I took in nearly every single home game that season and shared the love for the experience by producing video content and also writing about it for the local paper that I published.
In 2023 I did the same, walking the 20-or-so minutes from our home in Mount Pleasant to the park. If I was in town you'd find me at that stadium, and as one of many fixtures I was honoured to be asked to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the final game of the season.
That game concluded in them winning the Northwest League Championship, and one of my peers insists that I "set the tone" for it by throwing a strike.
It's been a few months and yesterday the Canadians held their Media Day where we got to breathe in the air from the freshly-cut grass and get a look at the roster for this year, and get a glimpse of what lies ahead. We're roughly a week away from an exciting new season, one which I'll be covering again and producing videos about which you'll find on my various "BC Bob" social media channels.
I've also got some special baseball-adjacent events I'm producing that you'll be able to get tickets for in the next couple of weeks.
I really hope to see you this season at The Nat!
